In order to make your move day more of a joy than a job we think its important that you take into consideration time, control and comfort.
Time
You’ve made the decision to move to a smaller residence or a senior community. Congratulations! Careful preparation will ensure that your transition is a smooth one. Allow yourself the luxury of a generous amount of time to plan and think through the necessary decisions. We want move day to be the high point of the process. So take it easy, ask your move provider to keep packing and moving to half days. This will allow for sufficient rest to face the challenges of the move process. Consider spending a day or two with friends or family or reserve accommodations in nearby hotel during the move itself.
Control
Consider your energy level, your budget, your resources (including family and friends) and your expectations. Make certain that everyone involved understands how much control you want to have over each step of the process. You can specify if you would like objective advice, extra services or for someone else to have decision-making authority.
Comfort
This is an exciting transition—pamper yourself! Pack an overnight bag with the items you will need immediately and then plan on a relaxing dinner away from the commotion. On move day, make sure you have made arrangements to have your kitchen, bathroom and clothes closets set up for you. Install night lights throughout your new residence to give you a quick orientation to new spaces. Request a map of the community and keep several copies close at hand. Check out available activities and outings – it will help you meet new friends and will enable you to become acclimated to your new surroundings quickly!
